Mystere was born into servitude as a slave to wealthy Imperium Citizens.
Slave children lived with their parents and dutifully served as playmates
to the children of their masters. Historical: Slaves were usually citizens of the PurPura Beltway. Asteroids destroyed the ecosystems of their planet clusters. Inhabitants barely survived on shards of exploded planets. They tilled soil without minerals to produce meager harvests. Wealthy space travelers began picking up PurPurans. The women were eager to accept better lives as servants to the aristocrats, but PurPuran men fought to keep their freedom. Ultimately, they were no contest for politically born armies who stormed the planet fragments with armored might. Women and girls were branded over the left breast with the Imperium Icon. They were oddly valued more than men. Hence, the galactic slave trade was born, and the impoverished served the wealthy. Personal: Mystere and her mother were being transported aboard the Omophore. The vessel was caught in the gravitational field of planet Itasca. Due to a propulsion malfunction, Captain Afognak was unable to maintain escape velocity and was forced to enter the atmosphere. The ship was then seized by an electrical storm, and crashed in the Higher Elevations. Survivors had no hope of rescue, as Itasca was a prison world established by military forces to banish its enemies, and spacecraft were prohibited to land. The refugees divided. Some joined clans of convicts, others fell victim to Porphyrians. The Omophore's pilot, Afognak, fell in love with Mystere's mother. The three were a family until a Porphyrian raid separated them. A good-hearted convict named Jasta found Mystere and another child named Fallon. Jasta collected the little girls and raised them with his own daughter, Sha'leste. Sha'leste prostituted Mystere and Fallon when they became women. Like most women on Itasca, they served society to gratify its villainous population. Because of the indignity women suffered, more often than not, they sought the companionship of one another to fulfill their needs to be loved. Mystere and Fallon were two such women who became more than just childhood friends. Mystere eventually fell in love with a criminal arrival named Kort Villikon. Their relationship never fully materialized, as she'd hoped. Unbeknownst to Mystere, Afognak and her mother had survived the Porphyrian raid and had had a child. Villikon eventually encountered and married Mystere's true half-sister, Zandora. Mystere tortured over not having Villikon. Her destiny fell to the Porphyrians. She was morphed into a vampirical creature, yet managed to keep her feelings of humanity intact. Mystere was responsible for destroying the telepathic link between Porphyrians and maintained her attraction for Villikon. |
