DIRT WHALES

Facts: Dirt Whales are dinosauric beasts, native to the desert world of Itasca. These leviathans of the dunes are distinguished by long tusks protruding from underneath their jowls. Their bodies are covered with tusks, and their claws are similar to aquatic flippers. They naturally dwell underground, as their genetic design is made for digging and traveling through dirt and rock. Dirt Whales shovel through desert like creatures of the sea glide through water. An oil based elixir courses through their bodies in much the same way as blood through the veins of most species. When the Imperium designated Itasca to be a prison world, convicts soon realized how useful the Dirt Whales could be. Dirt Whales are most tranquil under the influence of green gemstones underground. Convicts mined the gemstones and affixed them onto staffs to lure the beasts from underground. Taming rods allowed the convicts to ride the Dirt Whales as transportation. By extending the taming rods to within the peripheral vision of the Whales, their senses were numbed, and allowed riders to mount the great beasts. Their oil based bodies provided fuel for fire, their skin was used for leather to make clothing and shelter, and some Whales became like pets to their masters.
